HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. It weakens a person’s immune system by destroying important cells that fight disease and infection. There is currently no effective cure for HIV. But with proper medical care, HIV can be controlled.
HIV can impact anyone and is not specific to race, gender, religions, or sexual preferences. However, the risks of contracting HIV increases with certain lifestyles and behaviors. This is the reason the Centers for Prevention & Disease Control (CDC) recommends everyone ages 13-64 be tested at least annually (once per year).
HIV can be transmitted through anal or vaginal sex, or sharing needles, syringes, or other drug injection equipment (for example, cookers),or being in contact with contaminated blood (for example, blood transfusions though this transmission route is rare now due to screening and testing measures in place).
The first step is to GET AN HIV TEST.
Starting Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis also known as (PrEP) that comes in Oral and Injectable medication options (APRETUDE, DESCOVY, or TRUVADA) will help to reduce your risk of contracting HIV.
Post Exposure Prophylaxis (also known as PEP) can help treat other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that can increase your risk of exposure to HIV.
In addition, abstinence (not having sex), never sharing needles, and using condoms the right way every time you have sex can be additional strategies used to reduce your HIV risk.
Schedule an appointment today with our provider to be evaluated for PrEP or PEP.

At Onyx Health & Wellness, we offer Telehealth appointments for PReP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) prescribing which is medicine that reduces your chances of getting HIV from sex or injection drug use. When taken as prescribed, PrEP is highly effective for preventing HIV. LET'S END HIV TOGETHER.
DoxyPEP is a post-exposure preventative treatment for syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. Think of it as a morning-after pill but for bacterial STIs instead of pregnancy: take one dose after a condomless sexual encounter to greatly reduce your risk of contracting bacterial STIs.
